Only 3 days into this week and already we have a new YouTube star. Jimmy Wong has received over 1.6 million views and tremendously reviews on YouTube and iTunes after posting his video Ching Chong (It Means I Love You) online on March 15th. Wong’s video is a response to a UCLA student, Alexandra Wallace’s anti-Asian rant.
Alexandra’s rant was up for merely a week and received over 5 million views. After apologizing for her actions and withdrawing from UCLA due to death threats, she also removed the original video from YouTube. However, the numerous copies of the video and its parodies have since then been uploaded.
Concerning his new found fame, Wong has said “I think it's great, because in response to something that could have been fuelled by so much hate, and could have led to more of it, it's actually created sort of a wave of positivity from the other side.” Check out his video below and until next time, Ching Chong :P.
